"Want to Get Away?" Headlines
Direct from the headlines come the embarrassing moments that Southwest Airlines has incorporated into their "Want to Get Away?" TV advertising campaign.
The BBC NEWS has reported that the FBI has had some of its telephone wiretaps disconnected because it failed to pay its bills on time. In one office, the unpaid costs for wire taps came to $66,000. To further embarrass the federal government, the Department of Justice said some of the agency's surveillance operations had been jeopardized by late payments and an "antiquated" accounting system.
In other related government "Want to Get Away?" news , the city of Seattle, Washington recently launched a 1.3 mile long trolley service connecting South Lake Union, the new waterfront park, the Denny Triangle, and the Downtown Retail Core. The official name is the South Lake Union Trolley, but the locals just call it the SLUT. One has to wonder what kind of advertising Google's Adsense would link with the billboards attached to this public service oriented mode of transportation and it's acronym.
Is this a coincidence or did the Cyberculture News identify a targeted market for Southwest Airlines? Unfortunately, when a pattern exists, it is not a coincidence. It might be prudent for Southwest Airlines to offer a group discount get away package to the people that are employed by the FBI and the city of Seattle.
