Symbolism: China Syndrome: Portentous Headlines
On March 16, 1979, a movie entitled The China Syndrome opened in movie theaters. Twelve days later, a nuclear accident had occurred at the Three Mile Island power plant located a few miles from Harrisburg, Pa.
According to Dictionary.com , the China Syndrome is a hypothetical nuclear-reactor accident in which the fuel would melt through the floor of the containment structure and burrow into the earth. From the jocular notion that the hot reactor core would pass through to the other side of the earth.
Twenty nine (29) years later on March 17, 2008, the Cyberculture News, located near Harrisburg. Pa. identifies portentous China syndrome headlines on current events. The consequences of these events shall pass through to the other side of the earth.
